Exploring cultural concepts in our digitalized world

I am an organizational researcher interested in macro phenomena with a Ph.D. in Business Administration, Marketing and Communication Science degrees, and management consulting industry experience.

I mostly draw on organizational theories and sociological institutionalism to unravel technology's impact on our social and cultural fabric.

By employing qualitative and archival methods, I delve into these intricate dynamics that shape our norms, values, and social interactions in the digital age.

Currently, I work as a postdoc scholar at Stanford University (2022-2024).

My curiosity is fuelled when organizational phenomena seem contentious

For example, my previous and current work has led me to explore the following topics:

Exploring…

… the sharing economy

… platform work

…“community”

Understanding community

Over the past years, we identified an increase in the word community in organizational settings. I am currently working on a few projects together with various colleageus on this research agenda.

Using a grounded theory approach, one particular study investigates the meanings, beliefs, and rationale behind the concept of community in organizations.

You can read more about this project here, and if you are willing to participate, you can sign up via calendly here.

  • This study investigates the meanings, beliefs, and rationale behind the concept of community in organizations.

Our study aims to explore questions such as how investors, entrepreneurs/founders, business leaders, managers, and employees view community, what they mean by community, why they find it increasingly important, and how they organize for the community, etc.

  • By following an inductive grounded theory approach, we hope to learn more about

    a) why organizing for community has increased in organizations, as well as

    b) how organizing for community is done in today’s digital world.

As any organization entity is fundamentally entangled with the cultural dynamics of the societies in which they emerge, exploring our cultural foundations is an essential piece of the puzzle in unveiling structural dynamics between organizations, markets, and societies.

  • We are interested in hearing from different individuals with diverse backgrounds. So whether you are a tech investor/business angel, an entrepreneur, a business leader, a manager with or without team responsibilities, or an employee, as long as you are intrigued to talk about what community means to you - in the workplace or even in society at large, please consider participating in this study.

The study design includes a cross-country comparison between North American and Nordic organizations, i.e., we want to explore two different economic models (US liberal capitalism vs. Nordic welfare state) to understand if and how varying institutional infrastructures impact our emphasis and our shared understanding of community for organizations and society.

My research has been published in Technological Forecasting & Social Change, Journal of Cleaner Production, Technovation, Environment and Planning A, among others.
